Honors 9- Today we did a flash fiction activity with vocab. We continued to work through questions about part two of The Odyssey. Here are the questions we worked through today:

12. Translate Odysseus’ plan from line 879 to 888. See the italic summary as well.
13. Translate what Odysseus is saying after he shoots the arrow in lines 923 through 935.
14. In regards to following a plot line, where do you think the “Death at the Palace” section would fall?
15. Who is Antinous? What is his purpose in the story? As a character in the story, what is he in regards to Odysseus?

We discussed how Antinous is a character foil to Odysseus: A foil is a character that is in direct contrast with (usually) the characteristics of the protagonist. Antinous is hot-tempered, aggressive, ridicules others and is rather weak. Odysseus on the other hand is strong, thinks carefully and precisely and upholds many of the manners and etiquette thought proper by the Greeks.

2. What does Crooks say happens to a guy if he gets too lonely?
