English 9- Today we deconstructed the Type 3 writing prompt that is due Tuesday October 6th. Here is the prompt and FCA's:

Come up with a theme for the short story The Necklace. Then, analyze how either conflict or character development drove the theme.
FCA’s

2.Introduce all quotes

3.Complete the entire prompt



English 10- Today we worked on questions for chapter one in The Lord of The Flies.

English 9- Today we went over what is due.  Thursday all students need a rough draft of their first narrative assignment. Next Tuesday, the Type 3 writing for The Necklace is due. Here is the prompt and FCA's if you were not present:

English 10- Today we shared our survival guides and took notes on lit analysis for The Lord of the Flies.  If you did not receive the notes, please ask one of you peers or see me right away.

English 10- Today students completed their research and creation of their survival guides to get us ready for reading The Lord of the Flies.

English 9- Today we continued to read The Necklace analyzing conflict and character development while recording these things on our bookmarks. REMINDER: your plan for your first narrative is due tomorrow.

English 10- Today we did some creative pre-writing for The Lord of the Flies and started developing survival guides in groups. We will finish these up tomorrow and share them out with the class.

English 9- Today your revisions for The Most Dangerous Game are due. Also your book mark for The Sniper is due as well. We will be viewing the end of the film version of The Most Dangerous Game and comparing the thematic elements to the short story. Also, I assigned the plan for the first narrative project. This is due Friday! See me right away if you did not receive these directions.


English 10- Today we went over some common errors found in the writing about Stanley Williams. I then assigned the background sheet for The Lord of the Flies, which will be due tomorrow.

English 10- Today we continued to analyze the life of Stanley "Tookie" Williams. Studetns were assigned this in-class writing prompt:

In a well constructed paragraph (s) using says, means, matters, decide whether Stanley “Tookie” Williams should be put to death, granted clemency, or exonerated.
Use at least two quotes from either article to support your thinking.

English 9- Today we watched the film adaptation of The Most Dangerous Game. Students then had to identify 3 significant differences between the short story and the film. Then students needed to analyze how this changed or affected theme,

English 10- Today we finished annotating the biography of Stanley Williams and started to form our claims about whether he should have been granted clemency, exonerated, or put to death.

English 9- Today we did an extended grammar warm up. Then there was class time given to finish the group flash fiction project. Each group will share these out tomorrow at the beginning of class.  All members of the group need to be ready to explain their group's theme.

Check your grades in IC. If you received a U, M, or I on the Most Dangerous Game Type 3, you have one week to complete the revisions.

English 10- Today we worked on the Type 3 writing for Dee Brown. You need a rough draft TOMORROW!!! Here is the prompt and FCA's if you need them:

In paragraph form, compare and contrast how the Chief Ouray and Chief Crazy Horse used or attempted to use their power to defend themselves against the settlers moving west. Use at least 3 quotes from the text.

English 9- Today we took the benchmark test for August. These results will help guide the teaching process for all 9th grade teachers.


English 10- Today we continued working on annotating and filling out the graphic organizer for the excerpt from Dee Brown's Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. If you did not finish this work in class, make sure you complete it for homework. We will be doing some writing with this article next week.

English 10- Today we watched a film on the modern Milgram experiment and answered questions about the differences. All the questions are due tomorrow.  Here are all the questions if you need them:

1. What was the goal of Milgram’s Experiment? What conclusion did he come to?
2. In what ways was the original experiment biased or not completely inclusive?

3. Consider what the results of the experiment might be like today. Do you think the results would be the same? Higher? Lower? Why?

1.How did the experiment in the video differ from Milgram’s original social experiment?
2.How did the results of the modern study differ from Milgram’s conclusion?

English 9- Today I reviewed and slightly altered the expectations for the writing prompts that accompany The Most Dangerous Game. I need to see your graphic organizer and theme by tomorrow. Both writing prompts that you have chosen, your graphic organizer and reading analysis bookmark are due Thursday September 3rd.

Here are the writing prompts and a link to the web site to access the test:

Choose 1 of these:
A. Analyze and explain the impact of setting in The Most Dangerous Game.
B. Choose a character from the story and analyze their characterization and development throughout the story.
Everyone does this one:

C. Identify 3 topics from the story. Develop that topic into a theme and discuss how you identified that theme in the story. 

You need to include at least one quote from the text for A or B and 3 quotes for C.
