English 10- Today students reviewed for vocab. We then finished chapter three in OMM. If you did not finish, here are the questions that accompany chapter 3:

English 9- Today we reviewed vocab and prepared for the quiz on Friday. All students should be through page 904 in The Odyssey. Here are the vocab definitions if you need them:

Implacable- someone or something that cannot   be calmed down or made less angry
Aloof- at a distance, physically or mentally
Promontory- high elevation or point of land that   extends out over water.
Disdain- to reject or refuse someone or something   because they are seen as unworthy
Adorn- to decorate or add beauty to something or   someone
Revelry- noisy, boisterous festivity
Glowered- to stare with anger, scowl
Pliant- something that can be easily molded or   shaped, adaptable
Tremulous- fearful, timid, trembling
Restitution- restoring lost or stolen property to the owner.

English 9- Today I handed out the note catcher graphic organizer for The Odyssey. We started reading the text. If you are abset, you need to read pages 880-890 in the textbook to get caught up.


English 10- Today I completed notebook checks. Students finished annotations and worked on the graphic organizer for the poem Let America be America Again. Annotations and the graphic organizer are due Monday at the beginning of class.

English 9- Today we took the weekly vocab quiz. We then finished the  "What makes a hero?" questions.  Here are the questions if you did not complete them:


-What are the characteristics of a hero?
-What qualities do certain heroes have that make them exceptional?
-When have we seen a situation give rise to an unconventional hero or heroine?
-Do all heroes have something in common about their appearance?
-What are some of the lessons that heroes can teach us?

-What differences exist among cultures with regard to their concept of heroes?

English 9- Today we took notes on writing expectations for 4th quarter. We reviewed the part 2 TKAM test.  I assigned the vocab for the week and we began looking at the "Epic Hero Cycle" to prepare for reading The Odyssey.  Here is the vocab for the week:

Here are the notes we took about writing expectations:

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS use complete sentences and complete thoughts
Don’t use too many indefinite pronouns! (It, Its, he, she, they etc.)
Don’t use “I” in academic writing
Don’t make huge jumps in content—consider the reader has not read the text before


Areas of opportunity for writing assessment:

-Answer the entire prompt or question!!


No late work! (I can make exceptions for exceptional circumstances.)
