English 9- Today we finished chapter one. The questions for chapter one are due Monday:

1. Describe the world Equality 7-2521 is living in
2. Why does 7-2521 refer to himself as we?
3. In the Council of Vocations, Equality 7-2521 is given a job. What is his job?
4. Describe the relationship between International 4-8818 and Equality 7-2521. How does Equality 7-2521 feel about this relationship?
5. What do Equality 7-2521 and International 4-8188 find during their vocation?
6. Hypothesize what the “Unmentionable times” could be. 

English 10- Today we read all of chapter 6 and started chapter 7. If you missed the test from yesterday, you need to schedule a time to make this up. You may not take it any later than Monday November 2nd!!

English 9- Today we completed reading chapter 1 in Anthem and answered comprehension questions. Here are the questions:

Lord of the Flies Chapter 1-6 Test
1. Analyze the island as a symbol.  What is the significance of the scar upon that symbol?


2. Characterize Jack. Discuss his development from chapter one to chapter six. Use at least two examples from the text to support your thinking.


3. Characterize Piggy. Discuss his development from chapter one to chapter six.  What does Piggy symbolize?


4. Describe and analyze what lands on the island at the start of chapter 6.


5. Civilization is a topic that continuously emerges in the novel. What are the connections that the boys have to society? Critique what is happening to these connections.


6.  Explain the significance of the following quote: “Here, invisible yet strong, was the taboo of the old life. Round the squatting child was the protection of parents and school and policemen and the law. Rodgers arm was conditioned by a civilization that knew nothing of him and was in ruins.” (pg. 62)



7. Analyze and explain the following quote: “…I know there isn’t no beast—not with claws and all that, I mean—but I know there isn’t no fear, either,” (pg. 84)

English 9- Today I checked out books and we started reading chapter 1 in Anthem. If you did not receive a copy, see me right away.


English 10- Today I handed back chapter 1-4 review questions and we reviewed symbolism and characterization.  We will have a test over chapters 1 through 6 on Wednesday.  Make sure you are comfortable with characterization, symbols and major plot events.

English 9- I collected the final drafts of the first personal narrative. Today we used the author's craft notes from yesterday to analyze Ted Kooser's poem Abandoned Farmhouse and fill out the TPS-FASTT graphic organizer.


English 10- Today we continued to analyze chapter 4 and reviewed chapters 1-4 in The Lord of the Flies. The comprehensions questions for chapter 4 and the review questions for chapters 1-4 are due tomorrow.  Here they are if you need the questions:

4. The Lord of the Flies is considered an important novel because of what it says about humans and their ability to be civilized. What are the last connections that the boys have to civilization? What is happening to these connections?
