Honors English 10: Today we continued to analyze the poem Abandoned Farmhouse by Ted Kooser. 

HOMEWORK: Finish the graphic organizer by Monday! Reach 90% mastery of vocab list SAT Tone words by Monday. Complete the independent reading assignments by Friday September 29 in your notebook. I will be doing a notebook check on that day. Here are those assignments:

Independent Reading Assignment #1 
•Directions: Answer these questions in complete sentences in your notebook. Remember to title the assignment and put the date down.
•Why did you select this text?
•What is the title of your book?
•How many Pages?
•What is the genre?
•What is the setting?
•Who is the protagonist/main character?
•What do you predict is the author’s purpose for writing this book? Use an example from the text to defend your answer. Make sure you are using the terminology we have discussed in class.


Independent Reading Assignment #2

•On a half sheet of paper, write a synopsis of your book thus far.  What is happening in the plot?  What is happening in the rising action?



English 10: Today students that did their homework, annotating the biography of Stanley Williams, took their text evidence quiz.

English 10: Today students need to annotate the Stanley Williams biography on their own. ANNOTATIONS NEED TO BE DONE BY TOMORROW, BEFORE CLASS>

HOMEWORK:  Your article and annotations will be needed on the quiz. The quiz will be about finding quality evidence to support analysis.

IMPORTANT: If you don’t have completed annotations, you will not be able to take the quiz. This will drastically impact your grade. So do them. Word up.

English 10: Today we continued to annotate the article "The 7-eleven Robbery and Murder of Albert Owens." Articles needed to be comlete by the end of class--annotations and questions completed. Here are the questions that needed to be completed:

After reading the article, hypothesize who John Doe might be.

Then, tell me if you think that there is anything that John Doe could do to redeem himself.

Honors English 10: Today is the last day for students to work on their Harvest Gypsies project.  Here are the guidelines for the presentations:

§Presentations should be about 3 minutes, try not to go past 5 minutes.

§You need to have a writing piece that you can turn in.

§Every group needs a visual.


§Your goal is to teach the class about your particular prompt: historical connection, current connection, tone, diction etc. Be as informative as possible.

English 10: Today students read about Albert Owens and his murder. Students wrote about how "John Doe" used his power.

Students then worked to finish annotating and answering the questions for Harvest Gypsies. Students need to be done with all of the actively learn pieces and the graphic organizer by Wednesday.

HOMEWORK: Get vocab and definitions in your notebook.  Finish actively learn and graphic organizer by Wednesday.
