English 9- Today we started reading part two in The Odyssey. I handed out the study guide for part tow so students could be proactive in finishing this before the end so it is not so daunting. Students then independently worked on the questions for the section "The Beggar and the Dog."  Here are the questions from that section:

Class Copy.  Answer in complete sentences on your own sheet of paper. Use examples from the text to strengthen your answers.

The Beggar and the Faithful Dog

1. In what way is the dog Argos similar to Odysseus and the kingdom of Ithica?

2. What does this section reveal to the reader about Odysseus’ character?

3. What makes this scene ironic?

4. What qualities does Penelope reveal about herself in this episode?

5. Explain how Homer is being sentimental in this section. Explain if you think he is being overly-sentimental.
