English 9- Today we took the quiz covering chapters 5-7 in To Kill a Mockingbird. All students need to read through chapter 9 by Monday!  Here is the link again if you need it to read at home:

English 10-  If you had not completed the NewsELA article assignment from Monday, you need to complete it today. Today I also rolled out the final research project and upcoming important dates. Here is the assignment sheet I handed out:

Claim Research Project: Due Monday March 7, 2016

Do not lose this sheet! You will need it!

           

The purpose of this assignment is to develop and defend your own claim, explaining the significance for society—similar to the articles we have been reading in class. The key is to choose a social topic you are passionate about.

You have 3 options for this assignment:

1. You may create an article that mimics a newspaper or magazine article.

2. You may craft a formal research paper.

3. Create a research based format of your own (maybe create a website or something unique that you enjoy.)    You will need to get this approved by me!

Your research for this project needs to be supported by 3 sources. These need to be credible sources You may use web sources, but make sure they are credible. Your project must be typed, printed out and handed in to me. Images are not required but are encouraged. The assignment needs to be a minimum of three pages. A works cited page of your sources needs to be included.  Here are the important dates to remember:

Proposal due Monday February 8, 2016: This is a hand written piece explaining what your social topic is and what your exact claim is going to be. You will need to explain what your target audience will be, what appeals you plan to use, and what evidence you plan to use. I will need to know what format (research paper, article, website, etc.) you are going to choose. You will also need to explain how you are going to complete the assignment (access to technology, research, final project etc.)

Final project due Monday March 7, 2016: This is your final article in the best formatting and shape you can do! Take pride in your hard work!
