15. Who is Antinous? What is his purpose in the story? As a
character in the story, what is he in regards to Odysseus?
We discussed how Antinous is a character foil to Odysseus: A foil is a character that is in direct
contrast with (usually) the characteristics of the protagonist. Antinous
is hot-tempered, aggressive, ridicules others and is rather weak. Odysseus on
the other hand is strong, thinks carefully and precisely and upholds many of
the manners and etiquette thought proper by the Greeks.
